This past Wednesday I joined 99 other members of Colorado’s State House (65) and State Senate (35) for our swearing-in ceremony at the State Capitol in Denver. It is with the greatest sincerity that I thank you for giving me the honor and privilege to represent you in the Colorado State Assembly. I am excited to get to work on behalf of Boulder County and all Coloradans.
Contrary to what we’re witnessing at our US Capitol in Washington, I can report that Colorado’s legislative session has already gotten off to a great start with many good bills introduced with bi-partisan support. I see a genuine commitment from most members on both sides of the aisle to find opportunities to collaborate. As our new Speaker of the House, Crisanta Duran, made clear when she gaveled in the new session, our number one priority will always be to serve the people of Colorado.
We have a lot of work to do to ensure the people in our communities are given a fair opportunity, and I’m excited to be part of a team dedicated to finding solutions on many issues like clean energy storage and funding highway & transit programs.
Progress is made together, and to that end we must all continue to fight for our values and good public policy. Each legislator gets to introduce five bills a session, and my first three have come directly from ideas presented to me by Boulder constituents. You will be hearing more about them and my other bills when they are formally introduced and assigned to committees for public hearings. I encourage your ideas and your input – this is how an effective legislative process works!
I’m excited to serve on the Public Health and Human Services Committee, chaired by Representative Jonathan Singer, and the State, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee, chaired by Representative Mike Foote – both of whom are fellow Boulder County state representatives and great mentors to me.
